One of the first and most celebrated ALEPH programs, the Aleph Sage-ing Program, is bearing new fruit.
Rabbi Ori Har, a graduate of the first cohort of the Sage-ing Mentorship Program, and Rosemary Lohndorf, a graduate of the second cohort, offer Death as Part of Life – an Urban Retreat in Boulder, CO. This retreat is equivalent to Part Two of the Sage-ing Mentorship Program, “Death as Homecoming: Life is the Answer,” that is offered annually in Tampa, FL by Rabbis Nadya and Victor Gross. Part 1 and Part 2 of the ALEPH Sage-ing Program can be taken as stand-alone workshops or retreats. This urban retreat will take place in March and offers a unique opportunity to visit Colorado in the springtime.
A retired school principal, Rosemary has been teaching adults and children for over 30 years. She is a Spiritual Director, a certified Journal to the Self® and SoulCollage® instructor, and co-author of The Flourishing Principal. She also co-facilitates Boulder Sage-ing, a chapter of Sage-ing International. Rosemary is a Unitarian Universalist and the first non-Jew to graduate from an ALEPH program. She has made many friends among our chevra and is a great ambassador for Reb Zalman’s Sage-ing Legacy.
Reb Ori serves on the faculty of mashpi’im (Spiritual Directors) for the ALEPH Ordination Program and also leads Sage-ing workshops. She is the author of God Speaks Here and Now – A Guide for Living. See more about Reb Ori at her website.
Here’s how the two teachers describe this program: “Together we create a unique opportunity for inter-spiritual participation. This intensive program focuses on facing our mortality with honesty, vulnerability and integrity. We will learn how to expand our comfort levels in dealing with dying, death, after life and bereavement and through this work bring new meaning into our lives.
Our experience will include readings, journaling, ritual, embodied meditation and discussion. Each of us will have time to write our own obituary, vidui or “deathbed confession,” and spiritual or ethical will. We will also work with end-of-life medical wishes. We will take home with us the tools to update and expand these writings as life continues to unfold. While learning transformative practices based in Jewish practice, we will also draw on other traditions.”
