Seeking and Soaring: Jewish Approaches to Spiritual Guidance and Development, 2nd Edition, was released just in time to be presented to our beloved Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi ztz”l in April at the annual conference of Spiritual Directors International.
Rabbi Shohama Wiener, Rosh Hashpa’ah of the ALEPH Ordination Program, spoke to him through the medium of technology, and he and Rebbetzin Eve Ilsen taught through videocast the more than 600 spiritual directors attending the conference.
This second edition, aimed at both seekers and teachers, is dedicated to Reb Zalman, and contains essays by him and many others, including “fascinating vignettes, powerful exercises, accessible translations, and relevant and re-tellable sacred stories,” writes Ellen Frankel, Editor Emerita, Jewish Publication Society. Edited by Rabbis Goldie Milgram and Shohama Wiener, this edition has been significantly expanded with new articles, as well as reformatted and re-edited.
Among the new contributing authors and topics are hashpa’ah in nature, by Rabbi Howard Cohen, case examples for the incorporation of ritual in hashpa’ah by Rabbi Jill Hammer, examples and approaches to guiding embodiment during hashpa’ah by Rabbi Diane Elliot.
If you previously purchased the first edition, a discount code is available by request to rebshohama@gmail.com. Says Barbara Breitman, co-editor of Jewish Spiritual Direction, “you will find much to nourish your soul and enrich your practice.”
